“If one is master of one thing and understands one thing well, one has, at the same time, insight into and understanding of many things.”
Scholars are given specific topic (i.e. apple, cats, money, mountain, reptiles, stars, wood) to study for the time they attend The Paideia Academy. Each year a topic will be assigned to only new 3rd through 6th grade scholars, all continuing scholars will remain with their originally assigned topic.
Scholars will spend approximately 45 minutes per week in the LiD Lab. With the guidance of teachers and other scholar mentors, scholars are encouraged to explore the topic from any perspective they chose and at a pace that suits them; it is an opportunity to discover how knowledge works and become the expert of that topic. The scholar will keep a journal and portfolio of what he or she has discovered about the topic. The school will hold an annual celebrations for scholars to present their portfolios of research with their peers, families, and community.
